The Campaign for a University Sports Centre in Cambridge

800 Years With No Sports Centre

Cambridge University Women’s Lacrosse Club: British University Champions 2008, Varsity winners 2009

Petition

Cambridge has a long and proud sporting tradition. More than 50 University Sports Clubs provide elite level training and competition to the men and women of the University. The sporting programmes at Cambridge have produced many Olympians, Internationals and sporting greats. Meanwhile thousands of University students are involved in in sport for recreation, intercollegiate competition and other reasons.

We, the undersigned, support the campaign for a University Sports Centre in Cambridge and call on the University of Cambridge to commit towards raising the funds for and building  this sports centre.

In particular, we call on the University to:

1. Publically commit to the building of a University sports centre on the West Cambridge Site.

2. Promote and enable fundraising towards a University Sports Centre and University Sport more generally, as part of the 800th Anniversary Campaign.

3. Actively fundraise and solicit donations for the University sports centre, including searching for large donors.

4. Support the Hawks, Ospreys and University sports clubs in their attempts to secure donations from alumni, friends and other groups for this cause.

5. Ensure that the sports centre is built with the services and facilities to meet the needs to University sports clubs and members of the University for training, matches, sports rehab and recreation.
